The drivers for the CH340 are used to connect project boards such as a ESP8266/ESP32 that use rs232 communication to a USB port for programming on a computer. Make sure that you are using a CH340 or CH341 chip because there is often confusion about the chipset. If you have assess to the board itself you can see the writing on the chip which is used by your device. Some boards also use a Silicon Labs CP210x chipset which requires different drivers.
